Winter Vaccinations
Winter vaccination clinic information - Updated 8th November 2025
The NHS encourages eligible groups—such as older adults, pregnant women, young children, those with certain health conditions and carers—to get vaccinated as early as possible in the season.
Getting winter vaccinations means your symptoms will be milder and you will recover faster if you run into these viruses this winter.
We invite eligible patients to book their winter vaccines with us. Eligible patients will be able to receive their COVID-19 and Winter flu vaccine at the same time.

Flu season has arrived early this year — and it’s already hitting hard
Protect yourself now.
Flu cases are already 3 times higher than this time last year, and the season has hit the NHS over a month earlier than usual. We have texted eligible patients with an invite to book their flu vaccination, and we strongly encourage those who haven't yet had theirs to do so as soon as possible.
You can get the free NHS flu vaccine if you:
- are aged 65 or over
- have certain long-term health conditions
- are pregnant
- live in a care home
- are the main carer for an older or disabled person, or receive a carer's allowance
- live with someone who has a weakened immune system
Getting vaccinated helps protect you, your loved ones, and our community — and reduces pressure on NHS services during a very busy season.
Please use the link we have sent to book your appointment, or call us on 01202 822825 or 01725 517272 and we’ll book an appointment with a member of our nursing team.

Information for Adults about the NHS Winter Flu Vaccine
Winter flu vaccination information for adults
Influenza (flu) vaccination is important because, while flu is unpleasant for most people, it can be dangerous and even life-threatening for some, particularly those with certain health conditions. The flu vaccine is recommended for people at higher risk of getting seriously ill from flu. Getting vaccinated helps protect individuals from flu and relieves the pressure on the NHS and social care services.
In the UK, the flu vaccination season typically starts in September and runs until March, with the main push for vaccinations occurring between September and early December. This ensures people are protected before flu activity peaks, usually between December and March.
We’d appreciate it if eligible patients support The Cranborne Practice by having their flu vaccination with us. Choosing to have your vaccine with us not only protects you — it also helps support your local GP team - we receive a small fee per dose, which helps us continue providing care to the community.

Primary School aged children in England (from Reception class to Year 11) will be offered a flu vaccination by the NHS school aged immunisation service.
Children who are home educated will be offered the vaccine if they are in an eligible age group. Parents can obtain information about arrangements from their local authority education department.
COVID-19 Vaccination Information
Viruses change, and protection fades over time. The COVID-19 vaccine helps protect against COVID-19 virus, which can be a serious or life-threatening illness. People at increased risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19 are invited to receive the vaccine, which the NHS usually offers in spring and early winter.
Getting the COVID vaccine can help reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms and help you recover more quickly if you catch COVID. It protects against different types of the COVID virus and can help reduce your risk of being hospitalised if you become infected.
